I am Sonja Berggren, I am a Panndoran. This morning I got up at 5am eastern time to catch a plane to LAX so I could be at this event. It is important. On the plane I re-read the Preamble to the Constitution, I reread the Bill of Rights, I reread the Declaration of Independence. It is crucial that we exercise our rights to free speech and assembly just as we are doing now.

I am Karen Wray, I am a Panndoran. I represent the hope, optimism and enthusiasm of a rural Wisconsinite who turned the barn into a theatre every day as I fed horses and cleaned stalls. I sang the Sound of Music, played 80s detectives, imagined my life in Florida with the other old ladies as the 5th Golden Girl. I am aware of how important storytellers are, and I could not be more proud to be sharing this moment with you 

WE are PANNDORA PRODUCTIONS. WE are THEATRE MAKERS. WE are STORYTELLERS. WE put on new plays - PLAYS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN HEARD BEFORE. WE are dedicated to giving voice to new playwrights. That is what we do. That is who we are.

Theatre is a sacred place - a place where we can challenge and be challenged, where we can provoke and be provoked, where we can be in another’s shoes for a brief time, as actors, directors, producers, designers, crew, and audience members. As theatre makers we have a responsibility to encourage open thought and discussion of thorny issues.

 This year our production of “In Kings and Fools” by Kevin Daly takes on issues of immigration, bias, and fear of “the other.” In years past, our plays have covered racism and bigotry, misogyny, sexism and rape culture, marriage equality, sexual orientation, abuse of power, among other thorny topics.

 PANNDORA PRODUCTIONS commits to seek out scripts that deal with the volatile issues of these incendiary times. We will open our arms to playwrights yet to achieve stardom and we will read their submissions with open hearts and minds, looking for universal stories to share with you all. We commit to doing our best to raise the level of conversation in the country, to seek civil discourse on difficult and personal matters.

 We are proud to stand with THE GARAGE THEATRE, and thank them for sharing so generously of their space. As a theatre company without a permanent home we have always relied upon the kindness of strangers. Now we are happy to say we are no longer strangers, but dedicated partners with the GARAGE devoted to making more and better theatre every year. 

We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

 1st Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

 Declaration of Independence: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness
